Journey of Discipleship

Our journey is SO important!

The New Testament isn't focused so much on salvation, but on discipleship.  Discipleship is not a one-time activity, but a commitment to an ongoing, lifelong process.  It is the centerpiece of our Christian walk.  We are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ.  Matthew 4:19  "Follow Me, and I shall make you fishers of men."  Jesus' focus was the process of getting His followers to SPIRITUAL MATURITY.  Accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior gets you saved and gives you eternal life in Heaven, and that is wonderful!!  After accepting the Lord as our Savior, we then need to start the process of setting aside our time to pursue God, to learn of His ways and to set-aside our old ways.  1 Peter 2:21  "For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in His steps."  He desires us to be sanctified; separated and not looking like the world.

Get your hands on a Bible and read His ways and form an intimate closeness with Christ.  It will cause sensitivity to the heart of God.  With an intimate relationship with God, this will lead to submission to His ways and then that will lead to obedience.  This will allow us to see the harvest and to be blessed as well!  It all starts with building a relationship with Him.  With this relationship you will be able to sense His presence, hear His voice or His leading.  He will reach out to you through His written word or spoken Word through the Holy Spirit as it relates to you, your life and those around you.

In Ephesians 4:1-6  "I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called."  Obedience can be learned by practicing, no different than practicing sinful ways when one is of this world and its ways.  Place the old thought patterns at the feet of Jesus and allow God to transform your thoughts. Give Him ALL of you & He will give you a new heart!  Ezekiel 36:26  "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh."

IT

IS

A

PROCESS

So, grab ahold of God's grace and mercy when you trip and fall.  He loves you and does not expect perfection.  Now, "set your mind on things above, not on things on this earth."  Collosians 3:2 which requires you to filter every thought by the character and nature of God.

Philippians 4:8  "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."   When we read in Philippians 2:12 to "Work out your salvation with fear and trembling," it is a constant choice of pursuing righteousness and growing spiritually.

"Christ says, 'Give me all'...No half-measures are any good...Hand over the whole natural self, all the desires which you think innocent as well as the ones you think wicked - the whole outfit.  I will give you a new self instead.  In fact, I will give you Myself."  - C.S. Lewis

I have walked through some very tough and scary valleys.  The process to allow Christ first place in your heart takes time, discipline to quiet yourself, stay humble, watch what is taking up your time and guard your mind!  Put on the FULL armor of God!  Ephesians 6:11  "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."   Don't let your emotions always have the steering wheel; do not sin in your anger.  If this sounds overwhelming, lean on our Savior!  Smile and know that we are joint heirs with Christ and need to encourage one another!  (1 Thessalonians 5:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:18, 2 Corinthians 13:11 and over 20 more scriptures that mention this!)

Philippians 2:3  "Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. "  Challenge yourself today and strive to see others through the eyes of Christ...let us become His disciple through this journey of life He has blessed us with!

Jesus said, "If you endure to the end, you shall be saved."  Matthew 24:13.  Our beautiful Savior wants us to endure and He says those that love Him shall receive the Crown of Life. James 1:12.

Blessings to you, fellow warrior in Christ!
